While our fellow citizens in the Mississippi Delta are awash in misery, we more fortunate folk here in Farmington enjoyed a glorious and peaceful Labor Day weekend.
Early Sunday morning, up on Glen Street: John Fitch puts out the flag, as he does every day. People stir, emerging from their houses to putter around their yards—hanging laundry, mending trellises, tending tired flowers.
On the square, people tuck down big breakfasts at Little Jimmi'z, and a man sits in front of the laundromat, watching the passing scene.
